Book Review: More Than Enough

What a story!! This is a memoir-type book, about growing up Black in America. Elaine Welteroth is half Black, half German, and gives accounts of the many trials and tribulations she had to ordeal because of her brown skin. She hit the nail on the head. Many of the experiences she described are things to which most Black people in America can relate.

Corona Perspectives

Today is May 2, 2020. I’ve been quarantined at home for 6 weeks, along with much of the state and country (USA) due to COVID-19, also called the Corona virus. I could list a laundry list of things I’m not allowed to do anymore, but instead, I want us to take a moment and think of the perspectives of others and what they may be going through. I remember living through 9/11 and it was so surreal, the country was in shock, questioning if it really happened or if we were just delayed in waking up from a horrible dream? Today seems much like movies and novels that were imagined decades ago, and so it does seem surreal, but this is our new reality. . . . Read More

Just Do It!

So here we are, at the start of a new year (let’t not talk decades just because it ends in a 0; unnecessary added pressure). And maybe you want to start your new year’s resolutions. Go See Hidden Figures

Please go and see the film Hidden Figures. I saw it today, and, well, WOW. Such an inspirational film. If you are not familiar, Hidden Figures is the fact-based movie about three African-American woman – Katherine Johnson, Dorothy Vaughan, and Mary Jackson – who directly worked on calculations at NASA in order to to get astronaut John Glen to be the first American to orbit the earth. What makes this story phenomenal is that all this is taking place in the 1960s in segregated Virginia. As you can imagine, the women face many subtle and not-so-subtle racism and prejudice because of their skin color. . . . Read More

Clean Your Car

Clean your car. What? Yes, it’s really that simple. Life can be overwhelming at times – between work, school, family, and trying to have a personal life, there is sooooooo much to do. In the age of social media and instant gratification, we are never fast enough to keep up with it all. To top it off, our place of relaxation and peace – our home – can also take a beating. When we are mentally exhausted, it’s super easy to toss the clothes on the bed instead of in the hamper or the closet and that one teaspoon you promised yourself you would wash before bed turns into a bowl, then a mug, and then a whole sink of dishes.

When you look at the pile and how big the pile has become, it is so easy to become distracted and not know where to begin. So, what to do? What to do? . . . Read More

Phenomenal Life-Changing Post

The problem with change is that we want dramatic [unrealistic] results. We want to go to the gym on Monday and be 3 sizes down by Friday, or at least in 2 weeks before the beach trip. It is painful to work hard and not see a noticeable change in a matter of weeks or months. Then we become demotivated and give up, never realizing our full potential. Secondly, we don’t really want to change. We say we want to change, but we haven’t actually changed anything. . . Read More
