Today is May 2, 2020. I’ve been quarantined at home for 6 weeks, along with much of the state and country (USA) due to COVID-19, also called the Corona virus. I could list a laundry list of things I’m not allowed to do anymore, but instead, I want us to take a moment and think of the perspectives of others and what they may be going through. Please go and see the film Hidden Figures. I saw it today, and, well, WOW. Such an inspirational film. If you are not familiar, Hidden Figures is the fact-based movie about three African-American woman – Katherine Johnson, Dorothy Vaughan, and Mary Jackson – who directly worked on calculations at NASA in order to to get astronaut John Glen to be the first American to orbit the earth. What makes this story phenomenal is that all this is taking place in the 1960s in segregated Virginia. Clean your car. What? Yes, it’s really that simple. Life can be overwhelming at times – between work, school, family, and trying to have a personal life, there is sooooooo much to do. In the age of social media and instant gratification, we are never fast enough to keep up with it all. To top it off, our place of relaxation and peace – our home – can also take a beating. When we are mentally exhausted, it’s super easy to toss the clothes on the bed instead of in the hamper or the closet and that one teaspoon you promised yourself you would wash before bed turns into a bowl, then a mug, and then a whole sink of dishes.

The problem with change is that we want dramatic [unrealistic] results. We want to go to the gym on Monday and be 3 sizes down by Friday, or at least in 2 weeks before the beach trip. It is painful to work hard and not see a noticeable change in a matter of weeks or months. Then we become demotivated and give up, never realizing our full potential.
